A revivalist preacher was doing a tour of the countryside. He was stopping in every little town to hold a revival, and was getting great results through a technique that he developed. Before the service he would find a little boy, and give him a caged dove and a dollar bill. Continued

I heard an interview on the radio last week with one of the world’s leading cluster balloonists, a man named John Ninomiya from San Diego. Cluster ballooning allows people to fly through the air by attaching them to large numbers of helium-filled balloons. In Mr. Ninomiya’s case, he uses balloons that are seven feet in diameter to sail through the clouds at great heights and for great distances. Ninomiya said he had dreamed of this ever since he was a boy and saw a film about a child who flew over Paris by holding onto a balloon. He got some training, practiced his takeoffs and landings, and has become one of the world’s masters of the sport. He called it “the ultimate rush.” “It’s a wonderful thing,” he said on the interview, “there’s nothing like it.”

It’s been hard to miss the yellow ribbons decorating Main Street these past few weeks. On a Sunday afternoon back in late March or early April I met a few people who were going along the street with an arm full of them, tying them to trees, poles and signs. Continued
