Call for Part Time Rector
By Senior Warden on Jun 18, 2009 in Featured
St. Paul’s Church, Sharpsburg, MD, is a traditional, high-church congregation of 259 members, of whom 85 are active communicants (see full profile here). We seek to call a part-time Rector who will work on average 20 hours per week, including Sunday activities. St. Paul’s requires a leader as church pastor, priest and teacher, who will help us to work together to share the Gospel in our community.  Our Rector will work with the vestry and lay leaders to maintain regular worship services, preaching, pastoral care (calling on sick and shut-ins) and offices (weddings, funerals, baptisms) and will direct youth and adult Christian education. We desire a person of deep faith and personal conviction who seeks God’s wisdom and guidance. Our new Rector must be a compassionate, effective leader and counselor and must demonstrate integrity in personal relationships and maintain confidentiality. We also desire someone who will present thought-provoking, inspiring sermons. The Holy Eucharist is our principal service at 10 am on Sundays, with average attendance of 60. Rite I is used on the first Sunday monthly and Rite II for other Sundays, with additional services determined jointly by the Rector and vestry. Music is an important part of our worship and our Rector must support service music, working in conjunction with our music director. Compensation includes a salary (salary range of $22,000 to $27,000) plus expenses, pension contributions and housing in a small Rectory beside the church. The Rectory is a renovated historic, log home with two small bedrooms and one bath. St. Paul’s strengths include a congregation with a strong sense of spirituality, warmth and pride in their church and with significant recent growth and expanded community outreach. Also, St. Paul’s is a debt free church. Challenges include the need to develop additional leaders and to foster greater participation throughout the congregation. Sharpsburg is an incorporated rural village with a population of 700 in western MD, located about 13 miles south of Hagerstown, MD. Adjacent to the Antietam Battlefield, Sharpsburg was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC are about 70 miles away. If interested in this position, please send resumes to: cluggieclue@myactv.net or to Carolyn Shaw, 18325 Woodside Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740
