Living Together in the Body of Christ: I Corinthians

Living Together in the Body of Christ is the title of an eight session adult education class that will begin January 4.  Father Mark will teach this class during the 9:00 Christian Education period on Sunday mornings.

Last June began “The Year of Paul” throughout the Church, a time in which Christians from different denominations have been studying the work of our patron and exploring its relevance to the issues faced by the faithful today.  This course is our contribution to this worldwide effort.

Among Saint Paul’s letters, First Corinthians is notable for its intense focus on community life.  A longer letter, it was written in response to particular problems within the Corinthian church.  Its profound theology, which is largely focused on the concept of the “Body of Christ” is woven into a advice about issues of division, conflicts of conscience, sexual morality, and the use of spiritual gifts.

The course will examine these issues and others, which have great relevance for the challenges of living together today.   We will explore the original context of the book (which is much clearer than for many of Paul’s works) and also the ways Paul’s vision for Corinth can shed light on the Church’s life today.  Bring your Bible and don’t miss this important class.
